Description

Technical Parameters

Rotary evaporators for laboratories are instruments that achieve rapid evaporation of solutions by uniformly heating the material through constant rotation under reduced pressure. Rotary evaporators are primarily used in the laboratory for concentrating, drying, separating, and recovering solvents from reaction or extraction systems. Due to their high efficiency, gentle operation, and ease of operation, they have become standard equipment in modern laboratories.

The core operating principle of a rotary evaporator:
Constant rotation increases the surface area for evaporation of the liquid. Simultaneously, vacuuming the system lowers the boiling point of the solvent, allowing it to rapidly boil and evaporate at low temperatures. The solvent is then condensed in a condenser and recovered in a collection flask.

Core Features and Advantages

  • Efficient Evaporation: The rotating liquid film significantly increases the evaporation surface area. Combined with the reduced pressure environment, the evaporation efficiency is far superior to conventional heating and reflux.
  • Gentle Operation: Under reduced pressure, the boiling point of the solvent is significantly lowered, preventing heat-sensitive substances from decomposing or denaturing due to high temperatures.
  • Easy Operation: The modular design allows for easy installation and removal. The automatic lifting function further enhances ease and safety.
  • High Recovery Rate: The majority of the evaporated solvent can be condensed and recovered, saving costs and complying with the principles of green chemistry.
  • Wide Application: Compatible with a wide range of solvents, suitable for processing everything from conventional organic solvents to high-boiling-point solvents.

Main Application Areas

Industrial Rotary Evaporators have a wide range of applications, covering virtually all research and production areas requiring liquid processing:

  • Chemical synthesis: Post-reaction processing and concentration of reaction solutions to obtain products.
  • Natural product extraction: Concentration of extracts from plants, traditional Chinese medicines, and other sources.
  • Pharmaceutical industry: Concentration of intermediates and solvent recovery during drug development and production.
  • Food and flavoring: Concentration of fruit juices, flavors, and essential oils.
  • Environmental analysis: Concentration of trace pollutants in water samples or soil extracts for instrumental analysis.
  • Biotechnology: Concentration of biomacromolecule solutions such as proteins and nucleic acids.

Key Product Selection Considerations:

  • Capacity: Select based on the volume of samples processed daily.
  • Vacuum Level: The performance of the vacuum pump determines the lowest boiling point achievable, so the selection should be based on the boiling point of the solvent being used.
  • Lifting Method: Automatic lifting is more convenient and safer than manual lifting.
  • Condenser Efficiency: For low-boiling-point or large-volume solvents, an efficient condenser is crucial.
  • Material: Parts in contact with the sample must be chemically inert; glass and PTFE are standard.
  • Safety Features: These include overheat protection, dry-boil protection, motor overload protection, and explosion-proof features.

Safety Precautions

  • Stable Installation: The Mantle Stirrer Rotary Evaporator must be placed on a stable, sturdy surface.
  • Slowly Pressurize: After evaporation is complete, slowly release the vacuum by introducing air to prevent backdrafting of the liquid in the collection flask or the evaporating flask from falling.
  • Protective Wear: Wear goggles and gloves when operating the Vacuum Rotary Evaporator to prevent glass breakage and chemical splashes.
  • Bath Media: Water baths should not be used to heat solvents with boiling points exceeding 100°C. For oil baths, pay attention to the type of oil and its maximum operating temperature.
  • Compatibility Check: Ensure that the solvent used is compatible with the instrument's seals and tubing.
