Introduction
Short path distillation is a thermal separation technique that operates at a processing pressure in the range of 1 to 0.001 mbar. Lowering the boiling point temperature is an excellent method for mild heat treatment of heat-sensitive,high-boiling products. The short path evaporator consists essentially of a barrel with a heated jacket,a rotor and an internal condenser. The rotor produces a mechanically agitated product film on the heated surface within the barrel. By gravity,the product flows downward in a helical path,whereby the volatile components of the product evaporate. The steam passes through the shortest route and reaches the internal condenser with almost no pressure drop. The non-volatile components reach the lower portion of the evaporator and are discharged through the bottom product outlet. The residual vapor and inert gas flow through the vacuum nozzle to the vacuum system.
Process
The material is fed from the top of the evaporator and is continuously and evenly distributed on the heating surface via the liquid distributor on the rotor. The wiper scrapes the product into a very thin,turbulent liquid film. During this process,the light molecules escaping from the heating surface are condensed into a liquid on the condenser almost without collision,and flow down the condenser tube,and are discharged through a discharge pipe located at the bottom of the evaporator; the residual liquid is heavy The molecules are collected in a circular channel under the heating zone and then out through the lateral discharge tube.
