Shell Heat Exchanger

Introduction

The structure of the shell and tube heat exchanger is designed to optimize heat transfer and minimize pressure drop. The tube bundle is made up of a number of tubes that are held in place by tube sheets at both ends. The tube sheets are typically heavy-duty metal plates that have holes drilled through them where the tubes are inserted. The space between the tube bundle and the shell is filled with baffles or spacers, which serve to enhance the flow of fluids and avoid turbulence.
