Introduction

The horizontal film dryer is a continuous operation contact dryer that can be used in a wide range of applications under vacuum, atmospheric pressure and overpressure. They comprise a horizontally arranged heating casing with an end cap and a rotor with bolted blades, the wet product supplied through the inlet nozzle being picked up by the rotor blades, applied to the hot wall and simultaneously delivered towards the outlet nozzle at the opposite end of the body.

Composition

The horizontal film dryer consists of a horizontal cylindrical cylinder with a heating jacket and a rotor. The wiped film is immersed in the liquid film. The thickness of the liquid film is determined by the gap between the wiper film and the casing. The liquid film forms a strong turbulent layer before the squeegee, which enhances the heat transfer between the squeegee and the housing, during which the light components continually evaporate. The gap between the wiper blade and the housing is designed to have a small gap, typically a few millimeters, to prevent fouling of the feed liquid upon heating.
